Monologue

The woman standing there is my wife, Mgbafo or at least she was my wife. Mgbafo... What a beautiful name. Representing honesty, love, compassion and most importantly obedience. Tch... What a joke! That woman standing there is the exact opposite of her name. Oh the irony! Men and women of my clan, I married her with my money and my yams hoping and wishing to have an obedient and hardworking wife. But NOOOOOOOOOO! I was cheated out of my marriage. Not only did I receive a disobedient wife but she was snatched from my grasp from my own family! One morning, my in-laws burst into my compound and beat me half to death in order to steal my wife and children from me. In return, I only wanted the bride-price back from them! However, they refused and insisted that I was the one who drove her away! Me! How could I have done such a thing! Claiming that I had beaten my wife and forced her miscarriage, they claimed that I was the one to blame! I swear in the name of Chukwu, I am not at fault. I did nothing wrong! Every man in our society have the right to punish his household. I was merely enforcing my power and authority over my own woman and showing her who’s in charge. Is there anything wrong with that? No! There isn’t! In our society today, every man should have the right to discipline his household and that was all that I intended to do. And now! After losing my wife and my children, you, the elders of my village, side with that witch and her family and want me to beg for her back? I refuse! There is no way I would even take her back now! All I ask for is my bride-price and I will let this matter rest! Am I not entitled to even have what is now rightfully mine? After slaving hours and hours in the fields providing for my wife and children, am I not allowed to have what I truly deserve? Please elders, give me what is rightfully mine!

Nice presentation. I wonder if Mgbafo would truly come back to you. It was a good presentation and you could see the determination in your face to get Mgbafo back. I could tell you were anxious to get your presentation over, but you still did very well. Great job.

I like how everyone who did Uzowulu gave him a different personality. I could see the anger in your eyes when you were presenting. Did you want Mgbafo back or did you want your bride-price? You did not let your nervousness get in the way of your presentation. Congratulations on finishing the monologue.
